Photo Gallery – Dark Skies

Whilst we are not in a defined Dark Skies region – we do have relatively low levels of light pollution at night and it is possible on a clear night to have wonderful skyscapes.  From October to January we also have the possibility of viewing the mesmerising Aurora Borealis in the Northern sky.

Than Cairngorms National Park have a web page on Dark Skies in the National Park CNPA Discover Dark Skies

2023 – We do get regular displays of the Northern Lights but in February of 2023 they were particularly spectacular (note – pictures taken on a mobile phone so not best quality) – taken by Lochan Lodge looking North.

The pictures below were taken in 2022 by one of our guests, Rob Lane (please do respect copyright).

The left hand picture shows the Milky Way quite well over Lochan Lodge and the right picture is a wonderful ‘Star Trail’ image taken from Lochan Lodge garden looking South.

The pitcures below were taken by another of our guests, Sam Lane in August 2022 (please do respect copyright).  You can see the Milky Way on the left shots (and in one shot – what is probably Saturn) shows up quite well.
